Why I Built HostVeritas, a Non-Affiliate Directory for Web Hosting Companies

I have launched HostVeritas, a non-affiliate directory created to make more of the global web hosting market discoverable.

HostVeritas currently contains structured profiles for 156 hosting companies. Visitors can search by company name, hosting service, or server location while exploring global brands, regional providers, independent companies, and specialized web hosts.

The directory covers shared hosting, VPS hosting, cloud hosting, dedicated servers, managed WordPress hosting, reseller hosting, email hosting, bare metal, GPU hosting, and other specialized services.

Most importantly, HostVeritas does not use affiliate links or earn a commission when someone chooses a hosting provider. Commercial placements are available, but they are clearly labeled and kept separate from customer ratings and the default directory order.

Why Did I Create HostVeritas?

I have worked in the web hosting industry for almost two decades. Since launching Web Hosting Secret Revealed in 2008 and HostScore in 2019, my team and I have researched hosting companies, operated test websites, monitored uptime, and conducted hosting performance tests.

That work showed me how much larger the hosting market is than the selection most buyers encounter online.

Large international hosting brands receive substantial visibility through advertising, affiliate programs, and established search rankings. Smaller regional and specialized providers can be much harder to find, even when their server locations, technical capabilities, payment options, local support, or industry experience make them a better match for a particular buyer.

HostScore helps us examine selected providers in depth, but it is not practical to test and review every hosting company. HostVeritas addresses a different part of the problem by organizing a broader section of the market and making more providers searchable.

Research also supports this picture of a market that is concentrated at the top but diverse underneath.

A study by researchers from SIDN Labs, Delft University of Technology, and the University of Twente analyzed 150 million domains across 19 top-level domains. More than one-third of those domains were hosted by five large US providers. However, the researchers found a different pattern among country-code domains, where local providers remained more prominent and hosting choices were influenced by geography, national borders, and shared language.

The study was based on DNS measurements collected between 2017 and 2021, so it should not be treated as an exact picture of the 2026 market. However, it demonstrates why regional hosting companies remain relevant even as infrastructure becomes increasingly concentrated. Read the academic study here.

HostVeritas was created to organize more of this market and give buyers a practical way to discover providers beyond the brands they already know.

How Does HostVeritas Organize the Hosting Market?

HostVeritas organizes hosting companies through structured profiles instead of placing every provider into a single “best hosting” ranking.

HostVeritas users can browse companies by hosting category and server location. Each profile can contain information about the company’s background, hosting services, infrastructure, server locations, support channels, pricing range, and specialized capabilities where that information is available.

This structure supports more specific searches. A buyer may need a VPS provider with servers in a particular country, a host that accepts a preferred payment method, or infrastructure designed for GPU workloads, regulated data, adult content, or another specialized requirement.

These providers may never appear in a general “best web hosting” comparison. HostVeritas gives buyers another way to find them.

The directory also distinguishes between different information sources. Company-supplied details, customer reviews, independent records, and paid visibility are presented separately so visitors can understand where each claim comes from.

HostVeritas is not intended to make the final decision for every buyer. Its role is to widen the discovery stage and help visitors identify relevant providers for further evaluation.

How Do Customer Reviews and Claimed Profiles Work?

Customers can submit reviews based on their experience with a listed hosting company. Reviews are moderated before publication, and hosting companies cannot pay HostVeritas to remove negative feedback or improve their review scores.

Hosting companies can also claim their profiles. A successful claim confirms that an authorized representative can maintain the company’s listing. It does not mean that I or HostVeritas recommend or endorse that provider.

Keeping these distinctions visible is important to me. Buyers should be able to tell whether information came from the hosting company, a customer, an independent source, or a paid placement.

How Can Hosting Companies Participate?

Every listed hosting company receives a free, claimable profile. A representative must use an email address associated with the company’s official domain to verify the claim.

Free profiles allow hosting companies to maintain their basic company information, hosting services, locations, support channels, pricing ranges, introduction, and logo. Providers can also collect moderated customer reviews through a dedicated invitation link.

An optional paid plan adds profile tools such as public responses to reviews and a website call-to-action button. Uptime publishing is also planned as an upcoming feature.

HostVeritas separately offers Featured placements for companies that want more visibility. These placements carry a visible “Featured” label. Payment does not change customer ratings, remove negative reviews, or influence the default directory order.

Hosting providers can review the available options and search for their profiles on the HostVeritas For Brands page. Companies that are not yet listed can email [email protected] and request consideration for inclusion.

How Are HostScore and HostVeritas Different?

HostScore and HostVeritas is built serve different stages of the hosting research process.

HostScore publishes editorial reviews, performance tests, comparisons, industry research, and practical buying guidance. We select certain providers for deeper investigation and use test websites, uptime monitoring, and performance measurements where appropriate. HostVeritas, on the other hand, provides broader market coverage. It organizes more hosting companies through searchable profiles, service categories, server locations, customer reviews, and provider participation.

In simple terms, HostVeritas helps buyers discover possible providers. HostScore helps buyers investigate selected providers and understand the wider technical and commercial issues involved in choosing web hosting.

Both platforms are operated by my team at WebRevenue. Together, they allow us to cover the hosting market in two complementary ways: wider discovery through HostVeritas and deeper editorial analysis through HostScore.

Explore HostVeritas

The hosting market is much larger than the group of companies most buyers repeatedly see online. Many regional, independent, and specialized providers serve particular markets well but receive limited exposure because they lack large advertising budgets, established rankings, or affiliate programs.

HostVeritas is my attempt to make more of that market visible while giving buyers clearer information about where each piece of data comes from.

Hosting buyers can explore all 156 company profiles, browse hosting categories, and search by server location at HostVeritas.

Hosting companies can find and claim an existing listing through the For Brands page. Providers that are not currently included can contact [email protected].
